Bullet Used in Charlie Kirk Death Could Not Be Matched to Tyler Robinson’s Rifle, Court Records State
New details have surfaced in the case of Tyler Robinson, the man charged with killing Charlie Kirk.
The bullet that hit Kirk on September 10, 2025, could not be positively identified as one that matched the rifle used by Robinson, 22, according to court records obtained by the Daily Mail on Monday, March 30.
Robinson’s attorneys stated that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives “was unable to identify the bullet recovered at autopsy to the rifle allegedly tied to Mr. Robinson.”
The defense team said it may present testimony from an ATF firearms analyst as exculpatory evidence in a motion filed March 27. It also requested the preliminary hearing be delayed by at least six months, according to Fox News.
It further stated that DNA reports submitted by the FBI and the ATF would need time for the defense to review because multiple DNA samples were reportedly identified on some pieces of evidence.
They added that they have already received approximately 20,000 electronic audio and video files, along with written documents, that prosecutors have identified as evidence.
“The defense team has devoted, and will continue to devote, significant resources to processing discovery, including identifying materials not yet received to inform readiness for the preliminary hearing,” Robinson’s lawyers stated in a motion, according to Deseret News. “However, the defense team is realistic and the comprehensive review required to determine what is missing will take hundreds of hours.”
Robinson’s next court date is scheduled for April 17 where attorneys will decide whether or not to let cameras and microphones into the trial.
Kirk died at the age of 31 after being struck by a bullet while speaking to a large crowd during the first stop of his American Comeback Tour at Utah Valley University. He was rushed to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Robinson was detained less than 36 hours after the shooting. He was eventually charged with aggravated murder.
