61-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Set Trailer Fire For ‘Excitement’

A Washington woman is facing charges after allegedly admitting setting a trailer on fire just for the “excitement,” authorities said.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and firefighters responded at around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday to a report of smoke and flames coming from a trailer on S. Ben Apple Road. Firefighters battled the blaze while deputies spoke to witnesses.

Due to “several suspicious fires” in that area over the last month, fire investigators and deputies “immediately” considered the possibility of arson. Two people, a woman and the man who owns the trailer that was burned, were detained at the scene for questioning.

The woman, identified as 61-year-old Georgia K. Williams, initially told investigators that she and the man who owns the trailer were at shopping when the fire began, then quickly returned when the received a call about the fire.

The sheriff’s office said that once she was presented with evidence that the smoke was observed “seconds” after they drove away and that she was the last person inside, Williams allegedly admitted setting the fire and said the man knew nothing of it.

“When asked what she was trying to accomplish by starting the fire, she guessed ‘excitement’ but then said she did not know,” the sheriff’s office said.

The man was released, and Williams was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a charge of second-degree arson.

The sheriff’s office said that at this time, Williams has not been charged in connection with the earlier fires at that location, but that the investigation remains ongoing. The sheriff’s office said additional charges or arrests are “possible.”
