5 Swimmers Hospitalized After ‘Acid Spill’ At Colorado Pool

Multiple members of a Colorado swim team were hospitalized Tuesday evening after an “acid spill” at a pool, fire officials said.

South Metro Fire Rescue said its Hazmat team responded to the Sundance Hills pool in Greenwood Village, a suburb south of Denver, Tuesday evening and arrived to find there had been an “acid spill.”

The fire department said multiple possible patients were evaluated at the scene, and five members of a swim team were transported to hospitals for further evaluation.

In an update on social media, the fire department said the spill had been contained, and there was no threat to the public.

Sundance Hills Metropolitan District, which operates the pool, said the pool facility would remain closed until further notice.

“We are aware and thankful for emergency responders who were on site quickly to assist with several people who have been transported for evaluation and medical care,” the district said in a statement.

Neither the fire department nor the Sundance Hills Metropolitan District released any further details on the circumstances of the acid spill or the extent of the swimmers’ injuries.
