2 Separate Explosive Devices Reported An Hour Apart In Maine
Authorities in Maine said two different explosive devices were found just an hour apart on Saturday, less than a week after a woman reported finding an explosive device near a dumpster.
Maine State Police said its bomb squad responded to two separate suspicious devices on Saturday. At around 2:27 p.m., the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance after a “possible mortar round” was found on a property in Bowdoinham. At around 3:36 p.m., the Winslow Fire and Police departments responded to a report that a hand grenade was found by a resident clearing out the home.
In Bowdoinham, MSP Bomb Technicians Wing and Pescitelli identified the device as an 81MM M374 mortar round, and an X-ray indicated the device was potentially hazardous. The round was taken to a secure location and rendered safe.
In Winslow, the MSP Bomb Squad and Technician Pina identified the grenade as a live standard MK2 hand grenade from the WWII or Korean War era. The grenade was removed from the residence and taken to a secure location to be rendered safe.
