The historical novel “The Monmouth Manifesto” by James Arnett is now available on Audible, offering listeners a fresh take on the American Revolution through the Loyalist lens.

Narrated by the acclaimed Simon Vance, the newly released audiobook explores the complex realities faced by those who remained faithful to the British Crown during the tumultuous revolutionary period.

Arnett, a former corporate lawyer turned author, delves into this lesser-known aspect of history by focusing on the lives of Richard Lippincott, a Quaker, and James Moody, an Anglican, both farmers turned soldiers in a Loyalist regiment.

“I had heard the barest outline of a story about a Loyalist named Richard Lippincott, and when I looked into it, I found quite a story,” Arnett said. “While he was scorned as a traitor by the Patriots, he was treated as a hero by the Loyalists. After all, they saw the Patriots as the real traitors!”

Through the Vance’s vivid narration, these stories are brought to visceral life, presenting a narrative where personal and political loyalties collide.

Arnett’s work unearths not just the military engagements but also the moral dilemmas faced by figures like Lippincott and Moody, whom he describes as experiencing the brutal consequences of unwavering loyalty. They engaged in guerilla warfare and faced bitter reprisals, including hangings.

The book also covers the Asgil Affair, considered one of George Washington’s greatest missteps. In retaliation for the execution of a Patriot, Washington ordered the execution of a British officer chosen at random from among prisoners. The chosen officer was Captain Charles Asgill. The incident went against the terms outlined in the Articles of Capitulation signed when British forces surrendered at Yorktown, and embarrassed Americas French allies.

“The American Revolution is often presented as a united front against tyranny, but the reality is far more complex. ‘The Monmouth Manifesto’ delves into the moral dilemmas and hardships faced by those who fought on the losing side of history,” said Arnett. “This story isnt just about battles — its about the personal cost of war, the sacrifice of families, and the brutal consequences of unwavering loyalty.”

“The Monmouth Manifesto,” published by FriesenPress, is available online at online at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and Blackwells, with the audiobook version now available on Audible.
