Viral Video Shows Mom Tased and Arrested in Front of Her Family, Internet Has No Sympathy

A routine traffic stop over an unpaid insurance and registration issue spiraled into a Taser deployment and four child endangerment charges after a mom allegedly resisted a state trooper.

NBC Philadelphia reported on Friday, July 10, that Delaware State Police pulled over the mom of 4 identified as Sierra Hopkins, 38, of Dover, on July 7 after a check showed her vehicle’s registration was suspended due to a lapse in insurance.

Hopkins was cited once and let go, but the trooper changed his mind about towing her car and pulled her over again near a McDonald’s on East Lebanon Road. When she allegedly refused to move her car or step out, the trooper began pulling her from the vehicle as she held onto the steering wheel, according to the outlet.

He then drew a Taser, and Hopkins got out on her own, according to the official press release from the Delaware State Police.

When the trooper told her to lie on the ground, and she refused, he took her down himself, as per the outlet. State police claim Hopkins resisted and kicked him and scratched his face during the struggle before he stepped back and fired the Taser at her.

Four children were in the car throughout the encounter, according to the outlet.

The clip was shared by X user @KimKatieUSA, who claimed Hopkins later started a GoFundMe titled “Help Bring a Mother Home to Her Four Children” with a $4,500 goal.

“This is what happens when crime is rewarded instead of punished,” the user wrote.

The GoFundMe organizer described a different version of events, writing that Hopkins “was pulled from her vehicle, punched, and subjected to a Taser while her four young children watched in fear,” and adding, “No child should ever have to witness something so traumatic, and no mother wants her children to carry those memories.”

The video, which has gone viral, has drawn reactions, many of which were far from sympathetic. One X user didn’t hold back, writing, “The audacity to ask for a GoFundMe after acting like that is a special kind of delusional. Some people really have no shame.”

Others echoed that same lack of patience. Another wrote, “Never fight the cops. It’s not that hard. Just do what they ask. She brought this in herself.”

A third commenter piled on with a similar take, writing, “Got what she deserved; all you have to do is comply with the officer’s orders. She brought every bit of it on herself.”

Another chimed in and wrote, “When the COP says get out, get out. When your man says get out, get out. When your kid is in the crossfire. GET OUT. What is wrong with her?”

Hopkins was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on a $10,000 cash bond.

She is now facing second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with force causing injury, four counts of child endangerment, criminal mischief, driving with a suspended license, and failure to maintain insurance, as per the official release.

Hopkins remains in custody as the Delaware State Police continue to investigate the incident.
