Tom Cruise isn’t just a friend to Top Gun: Maverick costar Glen Powell — he’s become a guiding force in his career, according to a source.
The Anyone But You actor, 37, “has totally modeled himself after his idol Tom,” the source tells the National Enquirer.
“The two of them got so close when they worked together,” the source explains. “Tom is very much Glen’s mentor, he’s taken him under his wing and he’s now advising him on every move he makes.”
He’s also showing his support publicly.
“It was a huge deal for Tom to show up at Glen’s premiere for Twisters. He never would have done that if the bond wasn’t deep,” the source adds of how the Mission: Impossible actor, 63, attended the London premiere for the flick in July 2024. “Glen says all the time Tom has changed his life.”

The source notes that Powell has even taken a cue from the veteran actor’s approach to criticism.
“Glen blames any talk of him being arrogant on his high standards — he’s got no interest in letting ‘the sheep’ dictate how he feels about himself,” the source claims. “That’s a mindset he 100 percent learned from Tom. It’s exactly how he blocks out the noise from his detractors.”
During a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Powell revealed Cruise also gave him advice on his stunts while filming his new movie, The Running Man.
“I thought it was gonna be like a 10-minute phone call, it turned into two and a half hours about him being like, ‘This is how you don’t die!'”
Cruise also attended a screening of the film, sharing some sweet snaps with Powell on Instagram from the evening last week.
“Another great night out with my friends at the movies! You guys crushed it, congratulations!” Cruise captioned his post. “I laughed, was on the edge of my seat, and ate way too much popcorn.”
