Renée Zellweger and Tom Cruise’s decades-long bond dates back to their time costarring in the beloved 1996 classic Jerry Maguire – and according to a source, the Oscar winner is cheering on his rumored relationship with Ana De Armas every step of the way!
“If she could, Renée would make every movie with Tom,” a source exclusively dishes to the National Enquirer. “He hand-picked her for Jerry Maguire and they have been truly close friends ever since.”
However, their careers diverged after the hit flick, as Zellweger, 56, “doesn’t really do” action movies and Cruise, 63, isn’t in romantic comedies anymore.
“They’re supportive of each other but they’re in different lanes,” explains the source.

When it comes to his supposed budding relationship with de Armas, 37, the Chicago star is “still rooting” for her old pal and is “utterly supportive of what he’s got going on.”
Zellweger “will be loyal to Tom until the end of the line because of the incredible experience they had thirty years ago on that movie,” and the source suggests it’s “almost certain they will work together again.”
“Tom takes his few longstanding actor friendships seriously and he actually has perspective about this stuff and how short life really is,” continues the source. “Look at what he and the late Val Kilmer were able to do in just a few minutes in Top Gun: Maverick – there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!”

Until they “reunite” on the big screen, the source says Cruise knows he has a “solid supporter” and someone he can “always call on for advice” in Zellweger.
As Enquirer previously reported, de Armas and the Mission: Impossible star have been fueling rumors of romance as they’ve been spotted spending time with each other all over the world.
In February, they were seen having dinner together in London. They were also in the U.K. in March. A few months later, the Ballerina actress left David Beckham‘s 50th birthday party with Cruise, and earlier this month, they were photographed sailing off the coast of Menorca. More speculation swirled when they were spotted in Vermont walking hand-in-hand in photos obtained by TMZ.
The couple has yet to publicly confirm their reported romance – and according to an insider, de Armas isn’t pleased.
“Ana is head over heels for Tom, but she’s losing patience with the sneaking around,” the insider told the Enquirer. “She wants to be acknowledged as his girlfriend and doesn’t understand what’s holding him back. She’s in a tough spot because Tom expects everyone around him to do things his way and never takes it well when people push back.”
