President Donald Trump’s name is all over the newly released batch of the Epstein files, and one instance may suggest his relationship with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein extended beyond their supposed fallout in the early 2000s.
An FBI reporting document dated December 13, 2017, stated that special agents met with a “confidential human source” on November 27 of that year and were told that “Epstein knew former President Bill Clinton, and was very close to current President Donald Trump.”
“In the spring of 2015,” the FBI’s source reporting stated, “President Trump had just been to Epstein’s property for lunch.”
At the time, the 79-year-old was preparing to formally announce his campaign for the 2016 U.S. presidential election on June 16, 2015, at Trump Tower in New York City.

If the timeline in the Epstein files is accurate, it contradicts Trump’s prior claims that he and the late financier — who died by suicide in his jail cell on August 10, 2019, at age 66 — had a falling out in the early 2000s.
In 2002, Trump sang Epstein’s praises in an interview with New York magazine, calling him a “terrific guy” and stating that they had known each other for 15 years. He famously said that Epstein “likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”
However, after Epstein was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges in 2019, Trump told reporters that they had a “falling out” and said he thought it’s been “15 years” since they last spoke. That would place the end of their relationship around 2004.

A search of Trump’s name yields well over 4,000 PDF results in the Epstein library, but the Friday, January 30, release also includes many other mentions to his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, Mar-a-Lago and more.
According to multiple reports, some of the mentions are unverified claims against the current president while other mentions are part of information that has been previously reported (articles, emails, records, etc.). The Department of Justice said upon the release that the Epstein Library may include “untrue and sensationalist” claims about Trump.
Though there are reportedly millions of files that have not been released, Trump said himself that the roughly three million new documents appear to clear him of wrongdoing. (He has previously denied any wrongdoing with regards to Epstein and his crimes.)

On Saturday, Trump told reporters on Air Force One, “I didn’t see it myself but I was told by some very important people that not only does it absolve me, it’s the opposite of what people were hoping, you know, the radical left.”
An email from a woman named Melania (it is unclear if this is the same Melania married to the president) is also found in the Epstein files.
In a 2002 message to G.Max (presumably Ghislaine Maxwell), the woman wrote: “Dear G! How are you? Nice story about JE in NY mag. You look great on the picture. I know you are very busy flying all over the world. How was Palm Beach? I cannot wait to go down. Give me a call when you are back in NY. Have a great time! Love, Melania.”
