Mega; Annabelle Gordon/UPI/Newscom/The Mega Agency; ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGA President Donald Trump allegedly once embarrassed his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, while recalling how much he wanted his daughter, Ivanka Trump, to marry NFL star Tom Brady.
In Gavin Newsom’s upcoming book, Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery, the California Governor, 58, recalls a 2018 ride in the presidential helicopter, Marine One, where he flew with Donald, 79, and Kushner, 45, who married Ivanka in 2009.
According to Newsom per the Daily Mail, the conversation took a strange turn when the commander-in-chief “recounted that when Brady was single, the two of them were at a function and Brady expressed an interest in dating his daughter Ivanka.”
“The quarterback asked for her number, and Trump gave it to him. Brady called Ivanka and left a message, but she never called him back,” Newsom writes, per the outlet. “Soon after, Brady related the snub to Trump, who then called his daughter, wondering what was up.”

“’I said, Jesus, you know, Tom Brady. What the hell is going on? Why aren’t you calling this guy back?’ And she tells me, ‘Oh, I’m in love.’ What do you mean you’re in love? And that’s when she mentions this guy,” Trump said, reportedly pointing to Kushner, who married Ivanka, now 44.
Newsom described the discomfort as “dead air for a moment” before Kushner, who shares three children with Ivanka, reluctantly acknowledged he was not Donald’s first choice for his daughter.
“And then Trump turned to me and said, ‘Not even close, right, Gavin? Tom Brady. Tom Brady,’” the Apprentice alum reportedly said, according to Newsom.
Brady, 48, himself acknowledged rumors that he tried to date Ivanka at Donald’s behest in an April 2020 appearance on The Howard Stern Show. “That was a long time ago in my life,” the former NFL star said at the time. “Did I consider dating her? No, there was never really that where we ever dated or anything like that.”
