President Trump Makes More Changes to ‘Beautify’ White House Grounds, Adds 5th Statue to Rose Garden

President Donald Trump is continuing to forge ahead with his vision of the White House grounds.

On Monday, July 20, The Washington Post reported that the commander in chief, 80, had a bronze life-size statue of Thomas Jefferson installed in the Rose Garden last week, per sources.

The sculpture was created by George Lundeen, who told the outlet that the billionaire personally called him last month to thank him.

Lundeen shared an audio clip from Trump with the outlet where the president could reportedly be heard saying, “I just wanted to thank you. The sculpture looks really beautiful.”

The Apprentice alum already has four sculptures in the Rose Garden, including one of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, and a sculpture honoring Revolutionary War soldiers.

Harlan Crow, a billionaire conservative activist, loaned three of those sculptures to the White House, his spokesperson confirmed to the publication. However, the White House has not named Crow, instead playing coy by saying the statues were on loan from “generous private American patriots.”

In a statement to The Washington Post, a spokesperson for Trump said he is trying “to beautify and honor our Nation’s Capital during America’s historic 250th anniversary celebrations.”

The Rose Garden has been around since John F. Kennedy‘s presidency, and Trump has made significant changes to it, starting in his first term and continuing into his second, according to People.

Last summer, Trump ripped up the lawn and had a patio installed in its place. In September, he held an event there and added tables, chairs, and yellow striped umbrellas, referring to the space as “The Rose Garden Club.”
