President Donald Trump’s White House Renovations May Include New ‘Top-Secret’ Bunker

President Donald Trump’s ongoing renovations at the White House may be more involved than the American people think.

According to a Monday, January 19, CNN report, an underground facility in the building’s East Wing that was built during Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency could possibly be getting an update as construction continues on the 79-year-old president’s planned ballroom.

Described as a “secret submarine-like bunker” by CNN, a source with knowledge of the matter told the publication it’s likely being reimagined to include new technology that is prepared to take on current threats to the United States and the administration.

The preexisting bunker reportedly included the Presidential Emergency Operations Center and was used in cases of emergency, such as the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.

CNN reported that, during discussions regarding Trump’s ballroom, White House director of management and administration Joshua Fisher said the overall project will “(enhance) mission critical functionality” and “make necessary security enhancements.”

“There are some things regarding this project that are, frankly, of top-secret nature that we are currently working on,” he said, per CNN.

In response to a court filing obtained by the news organization for a case looking to stop the construction, the White House said that putting things on hold would “endanger national security.”

Former US Secret Service agent and CNN contributor Jonathan Wackrow predicted that whatever will go in place of the former bunker would be able to respond to kinetic threats like a nuclear explosion or airplane crash, among other scenarios.

“You have to think about a facility that can be built in secret, highly classified, that can sustain the current and future state threat environment,” he said.

The Apprentice alum said that the 90,000-square-foot ballroom — which replaces the previously demolished East Wing, also known as the space for the first lady and her staff — cost approximately $400 million.

According to Fox News’ Jesse Watters, Trump said that the ballroom is how he will leave a lasting impression on the White House. “I’m building a monument to myself because no one else will,” he allegedly told Watters.
