Another top official is out in Washington!

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reportedly asked top U.S. Army Chief of Staff General Randy George to step down from his role, a source told Reuters on Thursday, April 2.

According to the outlet, it’s unclear why Hegseth is making the change.

“We are grateful for his service, but it was time for a leadership change in the Army,” a Pentagon official told CBS News.

George was appointed by former President Joe Biden in September 2023.

In a separate statement to The Hill, spokesperson Sean Parnell said, “The Department of War is grateful for General George’s decades of service to our nation. We wish him well in his retirement.”

Hegseth has been cleaning house at the Pentagon since assuming his position in President Donald Trump’s second term. The former Fox News host has fired more than a dozen senior military officers, including the Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. James Slife, the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse and Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Lisa Franchetti, per The Hill.
