New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is apparently hoping to go live from Studio 8H.

A Tuesday, June 2, Page Six report claims that Mamdani’s “lifelong dream is to be on SNL.”

However, whether or not the 34-year-old politician will get a chance to take on 30 Rock is still to be determined, since creator Lorne Michaels reportedly turned him down in the past.

Now, according to Page Six, friends of the mayor are trying to put the bug in Michaels’ ear. “It’s a whisper campaign,” a source told the publication. “Mamdani isn’t asking directly, it’s more clandestine. People who know the Mayor are mentioning it to Lorne and others at NBC.”

While a source close to Mamdani said “there has been no formal ask made” and a rep for Saturday Night Live said that “nothing has come our way,” Page Six reported that Mamdani was previously pitched to appear during his campaign.

“Mamdani was pitched, but ultimately for creative reasons, they went with comedians instead,” a source told the publication at the time.

Mamdani is no stranger to a joke. During his election campaign, he corrected former governor Andrew Cuomo on the pronunciation of his name, saying, “Furthermore, the name is Mamdani: M-A-M-D-A-N-I. You should learn how to say it because we got to get it right.”

The sound went viral on TikTok after being mixed with Gwen Stefani‘s “Hollaback Girl” in place of the lyrics: “This s**t is bananas: B-A-N-A-N-A-S.”

After Mamdani became the first Muslim and South Asian mayor of NYC, he said during an appearance on The View earlier this year that his first weeks on the job have been “incredible.”

“This is the dream of a lifetime,” he said. “We’ve always wanted to build a city government that moves as fast as New Yorkers do. You know, when a New Yorker is trying to walk somewhere, you don’t get in their way. City government hasn’t felt like that in a long time, so we’ve wanted to say that there’s not going to be any problem too big or too small for us to address.”
