Nick Reiner Prosecutor Says Case is ‘Death Penalty Eligible’ Following Not Guilty Plea

Nick Reiner may face the death penalty in his ongoing trial related to the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

In a press conference following Nick’s arraignment on Monday, February 23, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman explained that the case is “death penalty eligible,” per People.

“Along those lines, we take the process in which we determine whether or not the death penalty should be sought extremely seriously, and it goes through a very rigorous process,” Hochman explained.

The prosecutor called this an “ongoing process” and noted that the situation is evolving and they’re keeping all options on the table.

“We’ll be looking at all aggravating and mitigating circumstances, and we have invited defense counsel to present to us, both in writing and orally in a meeting, any arguments that they would like to make in consideration for our going forward or not going forward with the death penalty,” Hochman added.

Nick, 32, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges related to the deaths of his father, 78, and mother, 70.

As the National Enquirer previously reported, prosecutors allege both victims died from multiple stab wounds inside their Brentwood home on December 14. Nick was arrested later that night and has remained in police custody without bail ever since.

On Wednesday, January 7, Nick’s former attorney, Alan Jackson, reiterated his belief in Nick’s innocence, noting: “What we’ve learned and you can take this to the bank, is that pursuant to the laws of this state, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder. Print that. We wish him the very very best moving forward.”
