Matthew Perry’s Assistant Sentenced to More Than 3 Years in Prison for His Role in ‘Friends’ Star’s Death

Kenneth Iwamasa, Matthew Perry‘s assistant, has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for his role in the death of the late Friends star.

In addition to a 41-month prison term, the court ordered Iwamasa to pay fines totaling $10,100 and serve two years of supervised release following his time behind bars. He’s expected to report to authorities by July 17 to begin serving his sentence.

Iwamasa previously pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine resulting in death. He was among five people charged in connection with Perry’s fatal overdose, and he was the final defendant to be sentenced in the case. Iwamasa previously admitted that he injected Perry with ketamine “repeatedly” and had done so three times on the day the actor died, per People.

Ahead of the Wednesday, May 27, hearing, Iwamasa’s legal team requested his sentence include six months in prison followed by six months of home confinement. However, prosecutors pushed for a 41-month sentence, as well as financial penalties, and three years of supervised release.

The 17 Again star was found dead in his Pacific Palisades home in October 2023. It was initially believed that he drowned while in his hot tub, but the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s report revealed his death was caused by the “acute effects of ketamine.”
