Days after Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine, died, authorities have reportedly revealed that they discovered that she left behind a suicide note.
TMZ reported on Thursday, February 26, that law enforcement officers confirmed that Katherine was found behind a locked door. A “note” and gun were located near her body.
Katherine, 42, had not “been heard from” in over 24 hours, which was what prompted a friend to call police to check on her. Once there, they discovered she had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
While homicide detectives also responded to the scene, they ruled out foul play.
A neighbor who wished to remain anonymous previously told Us Weekly that Katherine showed no “indication of struggle” before her death, adding that “depression is often silent.”

“Katherine was a private person but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t friendly. She was quite outgoing,” the neighbor explained, and said that she would sometimes see Katherine “laughing with her friends.”
A separate neighbor from two doors down told the outlet, “She was very nice but this is a quiet neighborhood and to be fair, we don’t see too many neighbors usually out.”
A rep for Martin, 75, gave a statement regarding his daughter’s death.
“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” the Only Murders in the Building star’s rep told People. “The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
