Man Hiding Behind Fake Wall Busted by Police Dog at 300-Plant Cannabis Farm
A false wall kept a criminal out of sight, but it was no match for police dog Asko, who tracked him down inside a sprawling cannabis farm in Wales.
BBC reported on Monday, August 3, that Albert Hysaj, 42, was sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to producing cannabis at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday.
Local police nabbed Hysaj after he was caught hiding behind a false wall inside a commercial property on the Bowen Industrial Estate in Aberbargoed, Caerphilly county, in May. He was found with the help of a police sniffer dog named Asko.
Officers searched the property and uncovered 313 cannabis plants spread across two connected units and three rooms. The setup also included a living area complete with a kitchen and bathroom.
Inspector Laura Paget said police operations like this one help take down larger criminal networks tied to organized crime. Despite Hysaj’s efforts to stay hidden, Paget told the BBC, “He could not evade PD Asko.”
Paget added that shutting down cannabis farms helps cut off the flow of drugs into local communities and blocks profits that could otherwise fund further criminal activity.
