Lawrence Welk Jr., son of legendary bandleader Lawrence Welk, died peacefully at home in Franklin, Tennessee, on Thursday, February 5, according to a statement provided by his wife, Lynn, to the National Enquirer.
“It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I share after 34 years of an extraordinary and love-filled marriage, my dear husband and best friend, Lawrence Welk, Jr., has passed,” Lynn said in her statement.
“Although he left an indelible mark on the music industry, building The Welk Group with his eponymous father, Lawrence Welk, Sr., his true legacy was the remarkable friendships he built with so many, and the lives he touched,” she added.
“His charm and sense of humor made me laugh deeply, bringing my heart a sense of joy that made so many moments of our journey together unforgettable,” she continued. “His kindness and gentility have left a mark on my soul, and I know he will continue to watch over us and guide us. Good night, good night, until we meet again.”

Welk was 85.
As the National Enquirer has reported, he was engaged in multiple lawsuits with his estranged son, Kevin, and nephew, Jon Fredricks, at the time of his death.
Both parties had accused each other of misusing funds from their family company, The Welk Group. Welk Jr., who was removed from the board in 2022, was also suing for elder financial abuse and wrongful termination and also had an ongoing shareholder derivatives lawsuit.
