JFK Jr. Allegedly ‘Squirmed’ Watching Monica Lewinsky’s 1999 Interview With Barbara Walters
A staff writer who worked with John F. Kennedy Jr. has opened up about their experience with the late son of President John F. Kennedy.
The writer, who isn’t identified but worked with JFK Jr. at his magazine, George, told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday, February 24, that he made a great editor because he had “an insatiable curiosity.”
However, that desire to constantly quench his thirst for knowledge sometimes landed him in uncomfortable situations.
“It was the same reason he invited his staff to a dinner party (with big-screen TV) at the Racquet Club the night Monica Lewinsky blabbed all to Barbara Walters — even though he was visibly uncomfortable, squirming through the whole thing,” the writer said.
Lewinsky’s 1999 interview with Walters came after her affair with then-President Bill Clinton became public and sparked a national scandal.
The writer continued, “Just the idea of this thing, a 21-year-old intern talking about flashing her thong and then fellating the president of the United States in the Oval Office. Ick. But of course he watched. And I think he’d have hate-watched Love Story.”
The writer was referring to Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, the new limited series from Ryan Murphy that dramatizes the couple’s high-profile relationship.
JFK Jr. died in a plane crash in 1999, alongside his wife, Carolyn Bessette, and her sister, Lauren Bessette. He was 38 years old.
