Jennifer Hudson and Josh Groban Touring Together Because ‘They Need Each Other’ to Sell Out Venues
Publicly, Josh Groban and Jennifer Hudson say their joint North American arena tour is all about mutual admiration and “dream collaborations.”
Privately, sources tell Straight Shuter neither can reliably sell out massive venues on their own and that the tour is all about survival in a punishing touring climate.
Recent attempts to gauge solo demand for each of them raised red flags with promoters, who are increasingly wary of half-full arenas.
“Putting them together was the only way to make the numbers work,” an industry insider tells Straight Shuter. Another source explains, “These tours cost a fortune. You don’t roll the dice unless you know tickets will move — and right now, they need each other.”
The tour kicks off June 2 in Montreal.
