Jean Smart thought she was headed for a Hugh Jackman–style Broadway triumph with her one-woman show Call Me Izzy — but the 73-year-old Hacks icon is struggling to fill seats.
“Jean was convinced she’d be dancing offstage to thunderous applause,” says one theater insider. “Instead, she’s staring out at half-empty rows and feeling the producers’ panic.”
With ticket sales hovering at just 50 percent capacity, the production has gone from awards-season contender to cautionary tale.
“She’s giving everything to this role,” adds another source. “But Broadway’s brutal. If you can’t fill the seats, your big moment disappears fast.”
