Vice President JD Vance had a strong message for Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed following his recent comments about Second Lady Usha Vance.

“There’s something about Abdul El-Sayed that is very, very evil and on the rise in the United States of America today,” Vance, 42, said during a rally outside Detroit Monday, per New York Post, calling the Democratic candidate, 41, “a man who has sympathy and compassion for people who share his religion,” but “nothing for people who don’t.”

Advising El-Sayed to keep his wife’s name “the hell out of your mouth,” Vance went on to slam the Michigan politician, who is Muslim, for insinuating that the vice president’s late grandfather might have disapproved of his marriage to Usha, 40, an Indian-American Hindu.

“Abdul, keep my wife’s name the hell out of your mouth, because she’s way out of your league,” Vance said to a crowd inside a Sterling Heights warehouse.

Vance also urged Michigan voters to support Republican former Rep. Mike Rogers in the Senate race instead, criticizing El-Sayed’s political stances and his connection to commentator Hasan Piker.

Vance’s comments follow a post from El-Sayed on X, in which he responded to a clip of the VP questioning what his grandfather — whom the vice president refers to as “Papaw” — would have thought of the Democratic politician.

“El-Sayed — this guy running for Senate in Michigan — he once argued, not too long ago, that criticisms of Sharia law were rooted in white supremacy,” JD claimed, per a clip posted on X.

“I’d love to go back in time and tell my Papaw that there’s a man who claims to stand for working people who says not only should we have Sharia law, but if you criticize it, you’re a white supremacist,” JD continued. “That’s not my Papaw’s Democrat party.”

“So do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no…” El-Sayed fired back in the August 22 post on X.

While the quip not only angered JD, it also caught the attention of Usha, who shared her thoughts on El-Sayed’s post during an appearance on Fox News on Tuesday, August 25, calling them laughable.

“I have to admit, I kind of laughed. Because yes, I never met JD’s Mamaw and Papaw. But I do know and love the children that they raised: his mom, his aunt and uncle,” Usha said. “And they have never been anything but incredibly loving.”

“His aunt is like a second mother to me, and so I have to think that if they raised children like that, they would have been loving as well,” she continued. “And I would have really, really, really loved to have met them.”
