Jonathan Ross, the ICE officer who was identified as the alleged shooter in the death of Renée Nicole Good, has reportedly moved to a new state.

The PunchUp Substack (the Daily Beast’s new sister investigations outlet) reported on Monday, April 27, that Senior Department of Homeland Security officials said Ross, 43, is now performing administrative and investigative duties.

While a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson previously told Newsweek that they were “not going to expose the name of this officer,” his father spoke about the incident to the Daily Mail.

Ross was reported to have allegedly shot the 37-year-old mother of three in Minneapolis on January 7 during an interaction with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers while she was in her car.

The PunchUp Substack reported that Ross has effectively been shielded from ICE’s own accountability process because an FBI investigation into Good’s killing has stalled. Additionally, senior officials told the Substack that ICE’s internal affairs division can’t start an administrative review until the FBI investigation concludes.

Ross was reportedly placed on administrative leave for three days before he moved out of state, according to the Substack report, and no further action has been taken.

A DHS spokesperson told the Daily Beast that the incident “remains under investigation.”

“All shootings are initially reviewed by an appropriate law enforcement agency,” the statement added. “Following a review of the incident by the appropriate investigative agency, ICE and CBP conduct an independent review of the critical incident.”

Additionally, a Department of Justice spokesperson told the outlet that there was “an ongoing investigation into the event by DHS-OIG.”

They claimed that the U.S. Attorney’s Office and FBI were “providing physical evidence and support to assist their investigation,” but they reportedly could not comment on the investigation’s status.

Good was shot at close range after an ICE officer approached her car and she began to pull forward.

In the moments before her death, video showed Good speaking calmly from the driver’s seat of her Honda Pilot, telling an ICE agent, “That’s fine, dude. I’m not mad.”
