Hertz Car Sales is giving car buyers a new way to try before they buy, announcing the nationwide expansion of its Hertz Rent2Buy program to more than 100 cities across the U.S., with a fresh inventory that now includes 2025 models.

The Rent2Buy program lets customers take home a well-maintained, competitively priced used car for up to three days before deciding whether to purchase. The extended test drive comes at a low daily rental rate — and if the buyer decides to keep the car, the rental fee is waived entirely. According to the company, 80% of renters who use the program ultimately go on to buy the vehicle.

“Buying a car is one of lifes biggest decisions, and we believe customers deserve more than a spin around the block to make it,” said Jeff Adams, Executive Vice President of Hertz Car Sales. “Rent2Buy reflects how were rethinking every part of the customer experience at Hertz: giving people the time, tools, and transparency to feel confident in their choices. Whether its testing how a car fits into your daily life or simply making sure it feels right, Rent2Buy puts the power back in the customers hands, with no pressure and no surprises.”

To start the process, customers browse online to choose their car from thousands of options — including newly added 2025 models — then take it home for a complimentary two-hour test drive or a low-cost rental lasting up to three days. If they decide to purchase the car, the rental charges are waived. In many states, the entire transaction can be completed from home.

Hertz says Rent2Buy customers also benefit from added peace of mind: each vehicle comes with a 12-month/12,000-mile limited powertrain warranty (whichever comes first), 24-hour roadside assistance, travel breakdown protection, and a 7-day/250-mile buy-back guarantee (whichever comes first). Because the Rent2Buy cars are still active members of Hertzs rental fleet, customers get access to newer, lower-mileage models that are often priced below Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value.

With 45 locations nationwide and an online platform offering transparent pricing and detailed vehicle histories, Hertz Car Sales positions the Rent2Buy program as a convenient, customer-first alternative to traditional dealerships. For buyers looking for a commuter car, a family SUV, or a luxury vehicle, the company says the program delivers flexibility without the pressure.
