While Nikki Glaser got several laughs from the audience when she made a joke about CBS News during the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, it reportedly rubbed Gayle King the wrong way.
During the ceremony on Sunday, January 11, Glaser, 41, cracked a joke about CBS News saying, “The award for most editing goes to CBS News… America’s newest place to see-BS-news.”
“Gayle visibly stiffened. She did not find it funny. At all,” a source told Rob Shuter for his Naughty But Nice Substack on Tuesday, January 13. “She sees herself as a serious journalist. She doesn’t do self-deprecating jokes. She takes her work — and her reputation — very seriously.”

The source continued, “No one at CBS News signed off on it. Gayle was blindsided. She’s spent decades defending her credibility. Hearing it mocked on a global stage made her extremely uncomfortable.”
They described King, 71, as “walking into a live wire” and said that she “hated being put in that position.”
“The room may have laughed, but Gayle King did not,” the source concluded.

As the National Enquirer previously reported, the standup comic fired off her joke without running it by CBS execs beforehand. However, it wasn’t required for her to do so.
“The news division is fully separate,” a source told Page Six on Monday, January 12. “Let’s move on.”
