Gayle King will likely be taking a step back from her CBS Mornings hosting role, but it will also come with a massive pay cut.
King was reportedly offered just half of her current $10 million-plus salary for her new reduced role, according to a report from New York Post.
According to the outlet, King’s current contract, which she renews annually, runs through May.
As the National Enquirer previously reported, King was being offered a reduced role on “special projects,” as opposed to staying on as the network’s current, daily host.
“She’s basically moving into a ‘special projects’ role,” Rob Shuter reported in his Naughty But Nice Substack page on Tuesday, January 20. “She can still headline big interviews, still be a face for the network, but her role will be drastically reduced.”

The move comes amid new editor-in-chief Bari Weiss’ shakeup at the network, as well as CBS Mornings plummeting ratings.
The morning show’s ratings regularly trail behind its competitors, NBC’s Today and ABC’s Good Morning America. As Enquirer previously noted, CBS Morning’s audience share has been up to 20 percent lower than the year prior.
The continuing shakeup comes as viewers have called for a boycott of CBS after Weiss’ controversial decision to bar a 60 Minutes report on the El Salvador prison CECOT from airing just hours before it was set to premiere.
