Gayle King doesn’t have her head in the sand.
“I saw those rumors,” the CBS Mornings host, 70, said during a guest appearance on Sherri, referencing reports that she’s going to lose her job now that Bari Weiss is in charge of the network’s news division, per Page Six.
“What I say is this: ‘I’m not going to negotiate in the press,’” King told host Sherri Shepherd on the episode, which is set to air on Friday, December 12. “I like the job and I’m told they liked me.”
But that hasn’t stopped the rampant speculation. “I hear one thing in the building and one thing outside of the building,” the journalist added. “I’ll be reading one thing, and I’m like, ‘that’s not true.’ “My kids call me, and they go, ‘Mom, what’s going on?’ And I go, ‘What have you heard?’ That’s how I look at it.”

“I’ve decided I’m going to stay out of the drama — and there is some drama.”
So far, her cohost Tony Dokoupil has been tapped to anchor CBS Evening News, while ABC News national correspondent Matt Gutman has been poached.
As the National Enquirer previously reported, King’s contract is about to expire and she’s refused to take a pay cut, an insider reported.
Another source revealed that Weiss is now hoping to lure Hoda Kotb to replace her.

“Bari wants a huge name who brings warmth, credibility — and viewers,” the source told the Enquirer, and the former Today host “checks every box.”
The source added that the King Charles host is “not blind” to the machinations. “Gayle sees the writing on the cue cards. CBS wants change — and they want it yesterday.”
King echoed that sentiment herself. “Tony’s promotion is certainly going to mean changes at CBS Mornings,” the Note to Self author told Shepherd. “There’s no question about that, so we shall see.”
