Have Tom Cruise and John Travolta finally put their long-rumored rivalry to rest?
A photo published in the Monday, March 30 edition of journalist Tony Ortega’s Substack The Underground Bunker shows the pair sitting front row at a birthday event for Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida on Saturday, March 14.
“There was a time they felt very competitive with each other, but they’re older now and so much more at ease with themselves,” a source tells the National Enquirer. “All that bravado and ego they used to trigger in each other just isn’t there and they’ve actually realized how much they have in common.”
In addition to being “fanatical about acting and the movie business,” Cruise, 63, and Travolta, 72, are “both obsessed with aviation,” the source notes, and even have their pilots’ licenses.
“It’s a shame that it’s taken this long for them to bond,” says the source, “because now that they’ve gotten over being threatened by each other, they’re having a blast hanging out.”

As the Enquirerpreviously reported, there was a time when Cruise would have gloated over seeing Travolta fall on his face, but he rushed to the actor’s aid after his 2025 film High Rollers flopped at the box office, offering advice in hopes of getting the actor back on track.
“Tom is still charging as hard as ever,” says the source, “and he loves giving advice to John about what projects he should take a look at.”
That’s not the only guidance the Top Gun: Maverick star has offered.
“They’re also both single and looking to meet someone,” reveals the source, “so they’ve been having fun with that too, being each other’s wingmen.”
