A flight attendant amazingly survived after she was ejected from a passenger plane that crashed into a firetruck at LaGuardia Airport.

The crash occurred on Sunday, March 22, and both the pilot and the co-pilot were killed in the accident, according to reports from CBS News and NBC News.

“A Jazz Aviation flight operating on behalf of Air Canada was involved in an incident on Runway 4 at LaGuardia Airport in which the aircraft struck a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle that was responding to a separate incident,” read a message posted by LaGuardia’s official X account on Monday, March 23.

“The pilots were killed, and there was apparently a flight attendant, according to two sources familiar with the matter, who was in her jump seat near the front of the plane,” a reporter from NBC affiliate WNBC said. “That flight attendant was found in the jump seat outside of the plane.”

While the unnamed attendant was “injured,” she was expected to survive.

Port Authority Executive Director Kathryn Garcia confirmed the deaths during a news conference. According to NBC News, initial reports indicate that 32 of the 41 people taken to the hospital have since been released.

“Sadly, the two pilots are confirmed deceased and notifications are being made by Air Canada’s care team at this time,” Garcia said in a statement, per NBC News.

According to CNN, those who were traveling in the firetruck were in stable condition at the hospital.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of two Jazz employees, and our deepest condolences go out to the entire Jazz community and their families,” Air Canada said in a statement on Monday. “Air Canada cannot confirm the exact number of injuries or if there are other fatalities at this time.”

LaGuardia is expected to remain closed until around 2 p.m., per CNN.
