Family of Bryan Kohberger’s Victim Suing Washington State University ‘to Seek Accountability’

Kaylee Goncalves’ family is suing Washington State University, where her killer, Bryan Kohberger was studying for his doctoral degree, NewsNation’s Brian Entin reported on Tuesday, November 18.

“We filed this lawsuit to seek accountability and transparency from Washington State University,” their attorney Shanon Gray, said in a statement to Entin. “Our goal is to understand what went wrong, to ensure that no other family endures the same tragedy and to honor the memory of those who are lost. We trust the legal process to uncover the truth and we will not be making further public comments while this case is pending.”

Kohberger, 30, brutally murdered Kaylee, 21, along with her friends and fellow University of Idaho students Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20 and Ethan Chapin, 20, on November 13, 2022, at a home in Moscow, Idaho.

As Enquirer has previously reported, 13 people at nearby WSU in Pullman, Washington, lodged formal complaints against the former criminology grad student, who also allegedly stalked two female students, in the months leading up to his stabbing spree.

According to police documents, a staff member told authorities that she initially assumed Kohberger was just “socially awkward,” but she eventually realized his alleged “outspoken discriminatory comments” in front of classmates and professors in and out of the classroom “were homophobic, ableist, xenophobic and misogynistic in nature.”

Students even kept a running tally of his discriminatory comments.

“He would also stare at people and stand uncomfortably close or ‘lean’ over women, making them very uncomfortable,” the staff member told police.

One woman complained that he would “physically corner” her, while others complained that he blocked exits and followed them to their cars.

Kohberger is currently serving four consecutive life sentences at Idaho Maximum Security Institution.
