Legendary singer Johnny Mathis announced he’s finally going to retire in May — at the golden age of 89.

The sad announcement comes as the silken-voiced crooner of such mega-hit romantic tunes as A Certain Smile and Misty was forced to cancel concerts due to “age and memory issues.”

“As many of you may already be aware, Johnny Mathis is approaching his 90th birthday this year [on Sept. 30],” says his Facebook page.

“So, it’s with sincere regret that due to Mr. Mathis’ age and memory issues, which have accelerated, we are announcing his retirement from touring and live concerts.”

The Love Story singer planned to keep crooning until November on his 2025 Voice of Romance tour, where tickets were going for $474 each, but his team has canceled his final four dates.

His retirement will end 70 years of performing love songs with his liquid voice.

Born in Gilmer, Texas, in 1935, Johnny moved with his family to San Francisco, where he began singing as a teen while also becoming a champion high jumper who once competed for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.

While he was famed for romantic ballads, he ironically never married or had kids.

His holiday season songs also became classics — including It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, We Need a Little Christmas and Winter Wonderland.

The performer has scores of studio albums. His last one, Christmas Time Is Here, came out in 2023.

A source says that following his retirement, Mathis plans to “relax and enjoy life.”
