Elon Musk Says its ‘Unlikely’ Humans Will Be in Charge in a Decade Due to AI: ‘Let’s Enjoy the Ride’

Elon Musk recently shared his predictions regarding the role Artificial Intelligence and robots will play in the world.

“I think AI might exceed the sum of human intelligence in around five years,” the 55-year-old Tesla founder theorized in a recent sit-down interview with the editor-in-chief of The Economist, Zanny Minton Beddoes. “There really won’t be anything AI won’t be able to do better than humans, apart from being human, perhaps.”

“The most likely outcome is an age of amazing abundance where anyone can have anything they can think of,” Musk continued, acknowledging a “massive” war could of course “derail” that.

“Assuming there is not World War III, I think we’re headed for an age of amazing abundance,” he said in the interview, which was published on Thursday, July 23. “So this is a message of optimism and excitement about the future.”

Beddoes asked, “You’re sure that humans will no longer be in control in 10 years time?” to which the SpaceX founder admitted, “I think it’s unlikely.”

When it comes to the fear that robots will one day wipe out humanity, the billionaire is willing to risk it and did not do much to quell fear.

“I can’t see any way to really stop this incredible momentum of AI and robots,” he confessed. “And at times I sort of think, well, perhaps, you know, even if there was a stop button, we probably shouldn’t press it because the most likely outcome is incredible abundance for all.”

Musk said his “philosophy” now is “let’s enjoy the ride,” admitting, “even if I wanted to stop it, I couldn’t.”
