Cher is dealing with a huge amount of personal and legal stress, and a source exclusively tells the National Enquirer that the music icon’s friends are worried she might be at her breaking point.
The “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer, 80, recently learned she will have to pay more than $1 million in her own attorney fees after a judge denied her request to have Sonny Bono’s widow, Mary Bono, reimburse the legal costs she incurred during their lengthy royalties dispute, per People.
Even though Cher won the underlying lawsuit over unpaid royalties, the court ruled that each side is responsible for paying their own legal fees.
“Cher is furious that she’s having to shell out all this money, she doesn’t understand how she can be on the hook for a million bucks when she won the case. It feels incredibly unjust,” the source says. “She has the money, and she can pay, but it’s the principal of it that’s really upsetting her.”
However, according to the source, the legal setback is only one piece of a particularly stressful time in the Burlesque star’s life, and her main worries are due to her son Elijah Blue Allman.
“Of course, the core issue is the hell that Elijah is putting her through,” the source shares. “It’s completely consuming her, and it’s taken an enormous emotional toll.”

Allman, 50, and Cher have had a tumultuous relationship for years. He’s been plagued by his own legal troubles this year, and the Grammy winner previously requested to be granted a temporary conservatorship over his estate. Even though the judge denied Cher’s request, the two have continued to be embroiled in a legal battle over his finances.
Plus, earlier this year, The Daily Enquirer exclusively revealed that Allman had secretly fathered a daughter who Cher only recently found out about in 2021, when the girl was already a teenager. A separate source told the outlet that Allman had purposely kept Cher in the dark due to their contentious relationship over the years.
“Worrying about him and how this will all turn out is keeping her awake at night and leaving her constantly on edge,” the source continues. “That’s having a domino effect on everything because when she doesn’t sleep well it really affects her mood.”
The source adds that the stress has begun to affect her relationship with boyfriend Alexander “A.E.” Edwards.
“She’s stressed all the time so she’s not the easiest person to live with, and of course, that’s not good for her relationship with Alex,” the source says.
To make matters worse, the source explains that the Mermaids actress is still mourning the loss of her mother, Georgia Holt, who died in 2022.
“She’s still missing her mom terribly. She used to be able to lean on her mom whenever life became overwhelming, but she doesn’t have that anymore, which is another reason she’s struggling so much right now,” the source shares. “Her friends are all saying there’s only so much she can take before she snaps.”
