Dr. Drew Pinsky has weighed in on the disturbing case involving Nick Reiner and the brutal killings of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

During an appearance on TMZ Live, Pinsky, 67, discussed the situation surrounding Nick, who is accused of murdering his parents. According to the outlet, Nick, 32, had been stable for years on a combination of psychiatric medications before his treatment was altered after he raised concerns about weight gain.

Pinksy emphasized that weight gain is a common side effect of some antipsychotic medications and explained that changes to Nick’s treatment may have disrupted a balance.

He also noted that in some cases, doctors now prescribe GLP-1 medications, such as Mounjaro and Ozempic, alongside psychiatric drugs to help manage weight-related side effects. However, treatment decisions are complex and highly individualized to each patient.

TMZ’s recent documentary, The Reiner Murders: What Really Happened, claimed Reiner was stable on his cocktail of prescription drugs until the month before the murders when he went to his doctor about gaining weight. His meds were then changed and sources told the outlet that the new medications made him unstable.

Reiner’s case remains ongoing, and no conclusions have been reached in court. His plea was postponed after his lawyer, Alan Jackson, unexpectedly withdrew from the case.

On Wednesday, January 7, Jackson reiterated his belief in his former client’s innocence.

“What we’ve learned and you can take this to the bank, is that pursuant to the laws of this state, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder,” he said. “Print that. We wish him the very very best moving forward.”
