Big & Rich’s John Rich Vows to Help Farmer After IRS Threatens to Seize Property: ‘I’m All Over This’

John Rich is stepping in after a Tennessee farmer said the IRS threatened to seize his property years after he tried to return a $20,000 tax refund he was mistakenly paid.

“Yea, this AIN’T happening…I’m all over this one,” Rich, 52, wrote via X on Friday, July 24. “If any of my TN friends can connect me with this man, please put me in contact with him immediately.”

The Big & Rich singer continued, “I’m overseas, but will drop a damn HAMMER on this situation as soon [as] I can talk with him. Hit me in the comments if you know him.”

In a separate post he added, “I’m gonna find this man before the end of the day.”

As the National Enquirer previously reported, Wilson Perry Kirby, a farmer in Coopertown, Tennessee, said the IRS mistakenly sent him a $20,000 tax refund on May 10, 2022. According to a Tuesday, July 21, report from WTVF, Kirby, 76, immediately tried to return the money and even went as far as to hire an accountant to help him notify the department.

Instead of correcting the mistake, the former Montgomery County Highway Department employee said that the IRS later charged him interest on the refund and withheld his 2025 tax refund.

Kirby also said he received a notice warning that the agency could seize his property if he failed to pay thousands of dollars in interest.

“Oh, I cried. It hurt me,” he told the outlet, later adding, “I’ve cried, I’m ’bout to cry right now. I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

The IRS has not publicly commented on the specifics of Kirby’s case because of federal taxpayer privacy laws. However, WTVF reported that the agency agreed to contact Kirby directly after the station requested a response on his behalf.
