Beyoncé Narrowly Avoids Onstage Disaster as Suspended Prop Malfunctions During Houston Show

Superstar Beyoncé narrowly cheated death in front of thousands of concert fans when a prop car she was sitting in, dangling some 25 feet above the audience, tilted and threatened to plunge the songbird into the crowd far below.

During a harrowing minute and a half, the “Crazy in Love” singer, who was trying to maintain her seat on the sloping car, shouted into the microphone at crew members controlling the cables, “Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop,” her voice seemingly calm but tinged with fear.

Gripping video caught the incident as the 43-year-old star, dressed in western garb for her hit Cowboy Carter tour, was singing “16 Carriages” while perched on top of the red convertible hanging by cables high over the floor of Houston’s NRG Stadium.

The prop was supposed to slowly circle over the audience as the superstar thrush sang. But suddenly, the car that was supposed to glide her above the 72,000-fan–packed stadium began listing to one side.

The gutsy singer stopped singing as the music cut out, but kept her cool and smiled broadly as the tilting prop threatened to pitch her onto the crowd below.

Finally, crewmembers slowly lowered both star and car to safety.

Incredibly, after a short break, the apparently unshaken “Texas Hold ’Em” singer returned to finish her June 28 performance, telling the cheering crowd: “I wanna thank y’all for loving me. If ever I fall, I know y’all will catch me.”

Later, Beyoncé posted a series of pics on Instagram — with the last photo showing her balanced on the teetering car — and wrote in the caption: “I love you Houston,” her hometown.

A source connected with the concert’s production released a statement saying: “A technical mishap caused the flying car, a prop Beyoncé uses to circle the stadium and see her fans up close, to tilt. She was quickly lowered and no one was injured. The show continued without incident.”
