As Compounded GLP-1 Access Ends, New Book Offers Sustainable Weight Loss Guidance

As new U.S. Food and Drug Administration restrictions reducing access to compounded GLP-1 medications go into effect this month, registered dietitian Kelly Springer is offering a new resource aimed at helping Americans rethink their approach to weight loss.

Springers latest book, “The New Weight Loss Era: Navigating Nutrition with a Dietitians Expertise in the Age of Medications,” comes as compounded semaglutide — the active ingredient in popular drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy — will no longer be available from 503B outsourcing facilities after May 22, 2025.

Many turned to compounded GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) drugs during shortages of semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) as the drugs quickly gained popularity. The compounded GLP-1 medications became widely available at med spas, clinics and telehealth providers, which will no longer be able to provide them under the new FDA regulations.

For Springer, this turning point signals the need for a broader conversation about sustainable health strategies.

“Weight management cannot rely solely on a prescription,” Springer says. “Nutrition education transforms lives because it empowers individuals with knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to make lasting changes. Thats something no medication alone can deliver.”

In response to this evolving landscape, “The New Weight Loss Era” offers readers a practical roadmap for long-term success without depending on medication. The book emphasizes evidence-based nutrition strategies and habits that can help people maintain or achieve weight loss in a healthy way.

“The end of compounded GLP-1 access doesnt have to be a dead end for patients,” Springer says. “My book is designed to empower readers with the tools they need to succeed — whether theyve used medication or not. It bridges the gap between clinical treatment and real-life nutrition strategies that work long term.”

Kellys Choice, Springers health and wellness platform, is also offering a suite of personalized services for those transitioning off GLP-1s or simply looking to adopt healthier habits. These include individual nutrition counseling, custom meal planning, webinars, workplace wellness programs, and ongoing coaching.

“Nutrition education is the missing link in so many weight loss journeys,” Springer says. “The New Weight Loss Era helps people understand their bodies, make informed choices, and build habits that last.”
