Andy Dick is opening up about his recent overdose.

In December, the 60-year-old was caught on a video slumped over and unresponsive on the streets of Los Angeles. Speaking on the Monday, April 13 episode of Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, he told the host that he snuck away to do what he thought was marijuana with some people he saw on the street, only to find himself having a medical emergency.

“Somebody was smoking out of a glass pipe, I said, ‘Is that pot?’ They said ‘yeah,’ but it wasn’t and they were strangers and I smoked it and it was fentanyl,” he explained. “And I promptly died.”

Dick’s handlers caught up with him and managed to give him a dose of the life-saving medication Narcan.

The comedian’s claim that he was trying to smoke pot with the strangers runs contrary to what he told TMZ shortly after the incident. At the time, he said he thought the men were doing crack cocaine and that he doesn’t “mind doing a little crack every now and then.”

Regardless, it seems Dick didn’t expect to be involved in what he dubbed “the fentanyl mishap” that day.

“I didn’t know it was fentanyl… which is so funny,” the Sober House alum told Maher, 70.

Dick went on to say that he was trying to escape the handlers, who are making a documentary about him and were also at the podcast recording.

“So, I was trying to get away because they don’t let me do anything, have fun or drink or anything. So I just ran across the street because they were all in a restaurant,” the Funny People actor explained. “I saw these guys gathering around on the curb smoking and I thought ‘yeah, sure, I’ll smoke some fing pot’ and I sat down and smoked and died.”

When the topic turned to Dick’s sobriety and what his plans for the future are, he said in no uncertain terms that he does not plan to get fully clean ever.

“If you’re asking am I going to stay sober for the rest of my life, there’s no f**king way,” he said. “And I would never want to be, would you?”
