U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Tuesday announced the seizure of a “significant” load of cocaine in a U.S. citizen’s vehicle at the Texas border over the weekend.

CBP Office of Field Operations officers at the Laredo Port of Entry’s Juarez-Lincoln Bridge encountered a 2001 Ford Explorer driven by a 43-year-old female U.S. citizen, with a 54-year-old Mexican man as a passenger, seeking entry into the U.S. The vehicle was referred for secondary examination using a non-intrusive inspection system and canines.

Further physical examination revealed 25 packages containing a total of 65 pounds of alleged cocaine, carrying an estimated street value of $872,777.

CBP seized the narcotics and vehicle. The driver and the passenger were arrested by Homeland Security Investigations special agents, who initiated a criminal investigation.

“Our frontline CBP officers continue to maintain razor-sharp focus and that attention to detail combined with the effective utilization of technology resulted in a significant cocaine seizure,” Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry, said in a statement. “Seizures like these exemplify CBPs ongoing commitment to upholding CBPs border security mission and keeping our communities safe.”
