A man crashed a U-Haul truck into the side of a townhouse in California early Tuesday, then fled the scene with his dog, police said.

The Orange Police Department said officers responded to a townhouse in the area of E. Lincoln Avenue and N. Palm Avenue in Orange for a report of a crash at around 2:33 a.m. Tuesday. They arrived to find a U-Haul truck had crashed into the residence.

Photos shared by the police department show the truck had apparently driven over tall bushes before striking the structure, leaving a massive hole in the wall, surrounded by debris.

The U-Haul driver, described as a thin, white man, grabbed his dog from the truck and fled the scene on foot, police said. One person inside the residence sustained lacerations on their feet from broken glass.

Police said building inspectors would respond later Tuesday morning to assess the damage and the structural integrity of the townhouse.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to call the Orange Police Department at 714-744-7444.
