A teenage driver is lucky to be alive after accidentally driving over the edge of a New York pier and miraculously landing right side up on a floating dock below.

The Port Jefferson Fire Department said crews responded Sunday evening to a report of a vehicle over the pier at Brookhaven Town Marina on Long Island Sound.

The driver of a Jeep “inadvertently” left the parking area and crashed through a railing, diving nose-down into the wooden floating dock below before landing upright.

A photo shared by the fire department shows the Jeep resting diagonally across the narrow dock, with two of its wheels hanging over the water. Firefighters removed the driver from the vehicle and temporarily secured it.

The 17-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Port Jefferson EMS.

The fire department said a heavy-duty tow truck was called to remove the Jeep.

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico shared a surveillance video of the accident on Facebook, describing the driver as “inexperienced.”

“Every day, I wake up and never know what the day will bring,” Panico wrote alongside the video. “Moments ago, an inexperienced driver drove off the Port Jefferson Dock, and luckily onto a floating dock.”
