An alleged “serial cat killer” has been arrested in California after residents complained for weeks about a man “luring” cats to his property in order to kill them.

The Santa Ana Police Department on Wednesday announced the arrest of 45-year-old Alejandro Oliveros Acosta after “multiple disturbing reports involving the suspected abuse and killing of cats in a local neighborhood” over the course of several weeks.

Residents of Santa Ana and Westminster have been posting on social media about a man captured on surveillance videos luring cats to his property, where he allegedly abused and killed them. Police shared one such video, which showed a man luring and apparently abducting a cat.

Oliveros Acosta was positively identified as the suspect by “several” victims and witnesses, police said, and they obtained a search warrant for his residence on the 2300 block of West Wilshire Avenue.

The search, conducted with assistance from Westminster Police and Animal Control, allegedly turned up evidence of dead cats at the property.

Oliveros Acosta was booked into the Santa Ana Jail on felony animal cruelty charges.
