Police in Colorado released an aerial video showing the path of destruction a driver took through multiple residential yards before crashing into a garage and barricading himself in a bathroom on Monday.

The Wheat Ridge Police Department said officers responded at around 1:45 p.m. tuesday after 911 callers reported seeing a dark-colored SUV driving erratically near West 48th Avenue and Harlan Street. Soon after, a 911 caller reported the dark SUV had crashed into a garage near West 29th Avenue and Ingalls Street. Another caller reported the driver had shoved a homeowner and barricaded himself in their bathroom.

An aerial video shared by the police department shows tire tracks running through grass at the back of several residential properties, before they move through a broken fence and through multiple debris-strewn backyards, with broken fences between. The video shows a larger pile of debris on the property where the vehicle allegedly crashed into a garage.

“Within minutes, Wheat Ridge PD surrounded the property, made commands and took the suspect into custody without incident,” police said. The homeowner was not injured in the incident, police said.

Body-worn camera video shows officers apprehending the suspect. In the bathroom where the suspect was hiding, officers allegedly found “white powder” that tested presumptive positive for cocaine.

“This suspect has a protection order that states he shall not possess or consume alcoholic beverages or controlled substances,” police said, without naming the suspect.

Investigators say it appears the suspect was traveling southbound on Harlan Street before driving through a water treatment plant and three backyards before crashing into the garage.

Police said they are recommending multiple charges to the district attorney’s office, including felony second-degree burglary, harassment, protection order violation, possession of a controlled substance and reckless driving.
