A small plane crashed shortly before 11 a.m. Friday along a busy road near Boca Raton Airport, authorities said.

The Boca Raton Police Department said in a post on X shortly before 11 a.m. that roads were closed in the area of Military Trail and Glades Road due to a plane crash. It’s unclear why the Cessna 310R crashed, but witnesses told local media it appeared to be flying low before it crashed and burst into flames.

Photos and videos shared on social media showed debris from the crash spread across the roadway, along with at least one damaged vehicle. A video shared by X user ChefGabeXXVII the Locksmith shows smoke billowing from the wreckage as fire crews work to extinguish the flames.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed there were three people on board the aircraft, but authorities had not yet confirmed any fatalities shortly before noon Friday. Local news outlet WPLG said video taken from its helicopter appeared to show at least one body at the scene.

The scene of the crash is right next to a train track, which runs parallel to the road, and Tri-Rail announce a bus bridge would be established between the Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton stations. Service continued as normal south of Deerfield and north of Boca Raton.
