A Seattle man has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out more than 20 bank robberies since January, police said.

The Seattle Police Department said detectives in the Robbery and Gun Violence Reduction Units and North Precinct patrol officers arrested a 42-year-old man on Monday afternoon, on suspicion of carrying out more than 20 bank robberies across King County, including 15 in Seattle alone.

Police say that beginning in January, a “lone suspect” has been robbing banks by concealing his face with a mask and glasses and passing tellers notes demanding money.

Using a fingerprint retrieved at the scene of one of the robberies, SPDs Latent Print Unit identified the suspect. On Monday afternoon, detectives received information about the suspect’s location. After conducting “several hours” of surveillance, detectives spotted the suspect walking on the 13000 block of 15th Avenue Northeast.

Police did not reveal a total amount of money stolen by the suspect, who was not immediately identified.

The suspect was booked into King county Jail for “investigation of robbery,” and police said additional charges will follow once the investigation is complete.
