Daniel Schmitt & Co. Classic Car Gallery in St. Louis, Mo., announced that a rare 1964 Imperial Crown Presidential Limousine, once used by first lady Jacqueline Kennedy and President Lyndon B. Johnson, has been sold to former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

The vehicle, ordered by the White House and built by Chrysler before being finished by Ghia of Italy, is one of only 10 produced in 1961. It was famously used by Kennedy during the funeral procession for President John F. Kennedy in November 1963. It was also used during Johnson’s inauguration, and frequently served in the White House motor pool.

The limousine — which is in original condition with a 413 ci V8 engine, leather black seats up front and grey wool seats in the back — has only 15,115 actual miles. The rear features two pull-out seats for use by interpreters traveling with foreign dignitaries. The vehicle also boasts six power windows, rear seat radio control and other amenities.

“The vehicle is a piece of American history,” said Daniel Schmitt, owner of Daniel Schmitt & Co. Classic Car Gallery. “Interestingly it was built on a Chrysler Imperial convertible chassis then shipped to Ghias facilities in Italy where they were lengthened and reworked by a team of artisans. Completion took over one month and only 132 are known to have been made from 1957-1965 with most utilized by government or executive motor pools.”

Schmidt purchased the limo for “around the asking price of $299,900,” the company said.

“We are excited to have secured this special vehicle and sold it to Mr. Schmidt who appreciates the importance and rarity of this iconic motorcar,” said Schmitt.
