Police in California were perplexed when they received a report of a dead elephant in someone’s yard last week.

The Palm Springs Police Department said an “unusual call” came in on the morning of April 3, from a resident reporting a deceased elephant in a neighbor’s yard.

“Animal Control sprang into action, only to discover that this ‘fallen giant’ was in fact… a wind-toppled yard statue,” police said.

A photo shared by the police department shows the “elephant” tipped on its side at the edge of a residential yard.

“No tranquilizers were needed, no stampede protocols activated,” police said. “Just another breezy day in Palm Springs reminding us to secure your statues, especially the life-sized ones.”
