Shortly after investigating a head-on traffic collision that resulted in injuries, a New Hampshire police officer captured a separate rollover accident on his dashboard camera.

The Pelham Police Department said it responded along with firefighters to the scene of a head-on collision in the area of 65 Dutton Road at around 6:21 p.m. Thursday. Preliminary investigation showed a 2024 Ford Transit van driven by 38-year-old Joseph Covey crossed over a double yellow line and struck a Toyota Camry driven by 52-year-old Erica Hewitt head-on.

Hewitt was transported to a local hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, while Covey declined medical attention for minor injuries.

At around 8:15 p.m., Sergeant Donovan was driving back to Pelham from a Nashua hospital where he was following up on the accident, which remains under investigation. On Keyes Hill Road, dashboard camera video shows a 2014 Chevrolet Impala appearing to drift in and out of the winding lane ahead of Donovan, who activates his vehicle’s emergency lights.

The motorist, later identified as 20-year-old Tyler Halley, then appears to lose control of the vehicle, rolling over multiple times into a residential yard.

Smoke can be seen rising at the scene of the crash. Halley and his dog were both trapped in the vehicle, and he was “in and out of consciousness” while officers and good Samaritans rescued the animal, police said. Firefighters arrived and extricated Halley, who was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers transported the dog to a local animal hospital for treatment. Police said the accident remains under investigation, but that charges are likely to follow.
