U.S. Customs and Border Protection said officers in Texas last week found more than $2.4 million worth of methamphetamine hidden in a shipment of limes.

CBP Office of Field Operations officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility on March 7 encountered a tractor-trailer making entry from Mexico with a shipment manifested as Persian limes. The truck was selected for inspection using non-intrusive equipment and canines.

Further physical inspection revealed 960 packages hidden within the shipment, containing alleged methamphetamine weighing 268.96 pounds. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $2,404,300.

“Our CBP officers continue to safeguard Americas border by keeping harmful narcotics off our streets,” Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, said in a statement.

CBP seized the narcotics and vehicle and Homeland Security Investigations launched a criminal investigation.
